The General Ranjan Wijeratne foundation was formed to continue his vision for our Motherland by lending firm support to the Armed Forces, The STF and the Police. The support comes in two distinct forms, one is to provide Welfare Services and the other being to give Morale and Publicity support to the patriotic men and women of the forces that he led and was a part of, by being the de facto Commander-in- Chief at the height of the Southern Insurgency until his untimely death. He was initially a Lt-Colonel and was posthumously promoted as a full General.

On 12th June 1990 The then Lt-Colonel Ranjan Wijeratne, having earlier annihilated Southern Terror, said from the floor of parliament, no person in this country cannot establish a dictatorship in any part of this country, through the power of the gun. We shall meet this situation head-on if it comes to that."
State Minister Wijeratne emphasized this is not a fight against Tamils. This is a fight against criminals. There is no half way house with me. Now I am going all out for the LTTE. We will annihilate them." It was said that Minister Ranjan Wijeratne reflected the mood of the country when he spoke in parliament. Unfortunately he was assassinated before he could fully complete his task
On 18/5/2009 Under the leadership of Our Commander-In-Chief His Excellency Hon Mahinda Rajapakshe, retired Lt-Colonel Gotabaya Rajapakshe, Secretary Defense made sure that the Tiger Leader, his senior Cadres and the institution itself became history. The late State Minster’s dream became a reality.

It's the Military, not the politicians that ensures our right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
It's the Military who salutes The flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag.

The Ranaviru Sevana was started by the Ministry of Defense to help the physically challenged forces personnel who sacrificed their limbs and, in some cases their eyesight and even mental well being in the pursuit of the defense of our Motherland .
