The 19th death anniversary commemorative ceremony of the late General Ranjan Wijeratne
The 19th death anniversary commemorative ceremony of the late General Ranjan Wijeratne took place at the Ranjan Wijeratne statue Police Park Colombo 05 at 9.30 AM on 2/3/10.
The Chief Guest was the Special Municipal Commissioner Hon Omar Kamil. Hon Karu Jayasuriya MP Deputy Leader of the UNP represented the United National Party. There were speeches made by the Chief Guest who also garlanded the statue, Deputy UNP leader, Hon Ariyaratne Wedege Municipal Council Member and a close associate of the late General, Mr Kumar de Silva Corporate Director and Mr B.A.Weerasoriya a close confidant of the late General and a member of the Foundation, who spoke on behalf of the foundation.
Every speaker reminded the public of the General’s integrity, fearlessness and the aggressive leadership that he gave the Nation and her Armed Forces to completely wipe out Southern Terrorism, which threatened the very fabric of our existence in the late 80s. The General’s transparency and personal sacrifice was legendary, qualities which unfortunately have gone missing in today’s politics. In following up on his vision to likewise destroy Northern terror; he made the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of our Motherland.
May the true patriotic son of Motherlanka achieve the ultimate bliss of Nibbana.
Lives of great men all remind us
